===========================================================

MAY 2021.  Luke Chapter MOAA is proud and honored to announce that in April 2021 it was a recipient of a MOAA Community Foundation grant of $5,000, and a MOAA Covid-19 grant of $2,500 recently.  These grants will be used in our Luke Chapter MOAA “Veterans Relief Grant Program” to address financial emergencies, loss of housing and related expenses, food relief, and similar financial expenditures of veterans of all ranks and all services caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the general economic conditions.  We understand that our chapter is one of only three or four MOAA chapters in the nation to receive a grant of $5,000 from the Community Foundation.  This is the fifth consecutive year we have received MOAA grants for community outreach to our nation’s veterans.  A copy of the April 20, 2021 MOAA announcement of grant awards is in a PDF at right --->>.

Additional information concerning the MOAA Community Outreach program is available at #MOAAServes.

Luke Chapter Never Stops Helping Vets in Need  -  September 2020

This summer stayed hot and busy! Since May, the Veterans Relief Grant Fund made
many significant grants to active duty members and veterans of our nation’s military
services who are experiencing food needs and financial emergencies. We are far ahead in dollars granted and people helped compared to prior years.
In May, several of our chapter members participated with the Luke AFB Chaplain’s Office in meeting hundreds of active duty airmen during duty hours on the flight line at Luke AFB. We distributed more than 300 packaged sandwich meals during the noon hour period, supporting morale and welfare of our troops during curtailed food-service due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You may have seen articles and pictures in West Valley newspapers about this much-appreciated event.
By early July 2020, Luke Chapter MOAA received $10,000 in total funds in grants from MOAA’s Community Foundation and nearly $5,000 from the Arizona Department of Veterans Services. Our program started four years ago and grows yearly in dollars and number of veterans aided.
By mid-September, we granted more than one-half of these funds to seven veterans who were in serious financial need. Most of those vets were impacted by the Covid-19 crisis due to their age, health, or job-losses. We paid over-due rent, utilities, car payments, emergency repairs to faulty electrical wiring, and transportation of household goods of aging veterans with severe physical disabilities (two cases). Our members helped unload a van and a shipping container. We even purchased batteries to enable solar electricity for an elderly veteran living ‘off the grid’ near the Navajo Reservation! Several chapter members gave personal donations to help these vets as well. All were extremely grateful and full of thanks to Luke Chapter and MOAA for the helping-hand.
We are planning our traditional Thanksgiving food support at Luke AFB. Please consider a donation to support this worthy Chapter program.
NEVER STOP SERVING
