At the time he was serving as the Associate Commissioner and Chief Information Officer for New York City’s Department of Housing Preser-vation and Development (HPD), the largest mu-nicipal developer in the United States. During this very informative presentation, he will discuss the timeline of events, the adequacy of preparations for such a major event, emergency services, activities during the attacks, remedia-tion, and post-event activities. He will show nu-merous photos of this disaster and its effects on New York City and our country.
Prior to joining HPD, he held a number of senior management IT positions with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority including Director of Surface Transit Systems with the New York City Transit; Chief Information Officer for Long Island Bus, and Director of Technical Services and Support for the MTA Bridges and Tunnels. He was the recipient of New York City’s Excellence in Technology Award for the best City-wide application.
In addition, he held the position of Vice Chair-person of New York City’s Municipal Data Pro-cessing Council from 2004 – 2007; an organiza-tion of more than 50 New York City’s Chief In-formation Officers.
Since retirement, he has been sharing his exper-tise and IT knowledge with students at Estrella Mountain Community College, where in 2012, he received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty award. He is an IRS certified tax preparer, in-structor, and site coordinator for VITA/TCE (Vol-unteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly) serving the low to moderate in-come community.
